God’s Country.

Do you like country music?
If so, take a couple minutes and watch this music video:
The very first time I heard this song, it touched my soul.
One thing to note, I am not religious. I don’t believe in God, but even with that, this song is everything.
It speaks to a way of life, of living. A life that is simple, and kind, and honest. A life that appreciates the smaller things in life.
“I saw the light in the sunrise”
That land taught me respect, hard work, and love. That family comes before things. It also taught me 13-point pitch and ‘roof ball’
I grew up on a small farm outside of ‘small town’ Kansas. We moved into town when I was 11 or so, but that farm will always be my home. Always.
That farm is where my dad grew up, in this tiny little house. It broke my heart they day they tore it down. (They pretty much had to for safety reasons).
That land is where most of my favorite memories live. Having a sister try to teach me to ride a bike, riding around in ‘Ol Smokey’ (a very very old tractor) with my dad, burning my leg on a massive mo-ped, playing hide ‘n sneak with my mom, and the pond where we would spend much of our summer either swimming or fishing.
The pond isn’t really there anymore. It’s mostly algae and pretty dang gross.
That land gave me the scar on my leg.
That farm is where we were married.
And hopefully that land is where I will go after I die. When it’s my time, I want to be cremated and scattered over the land on horseback.
“The devil went down to Georgia but he didn’t stick around, this is God’s country”

One Response to “God’s Country.”
A very powerful song. Lyrics AND melody.
